Overview:

The Project Controls Manager will be responsible for preparing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and cashflow forecasts for both Empyrean and third-party projects. The responsibilities include performing cost-benefit analyses, ensuring accuracy in project budgets and schedules, and analyzing this project data to identify and mitigate project risks The role is also responsible for the implementation and management of a construction reporting program, as well as preparing and distributing project correspondence and reports, and other duties as assigned, ensuring consistency with company strategy, values, commitments, and goals. The ideal candidate is familiar with project management techniques, has excellent numerical skills, and can communicate effectively with diverse teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Project Schedules/Budgets/Administration

  • Develops and maintains project schedules using SmartSheets, Microsoft Project, and other construction reporting tools, ensuring data consistency across all scheduling tools and alignment between the project team, contractors, suppliers, utilities and other stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains project budgets using SmartSheets, NetSuite and other budget management tools, ensuring data consistency across all budgeting tools.
  • Analyzes project progress and performance, identifying trends for improved project efficiency.
  • Monitors project risks and opportunities, developing mitigation plans when necessary.
  • Coordinates with project teams to gather schedule and cost data and implement project schedule and cost changes.
  • Prepares regular project reports for internal and external stakeholders, with a high degree of accuracy and detail.
  • Supports the Community Solar, Greenfield, Finance, and M&A teams with reliable data on construction status and costing.
  • Leads regular project review meetings.
  • Leads construction documentation due diligence, including documentation for construction financing closings and Independent Engineer reports.
  • Leads portfolio lessons learned sessions based on construction schedule and budget performance.
  • Leads with compilation of handover documentation for the Asset Management team.
  • Supports the Procurement and Engineering teams with reliable schedule and cost data.
  • Supports in project communications and media relations.
  • Facilitates vendor and contractor invoicing and purchase orders.
  • Other administrative support to construction team as assigned.

 

Construction Management Tool

  • Leads the construction team in the selection and administration of a construction reporting tool.
  • Leads the implementation of construction reporting tool, ensuing all necessary data is captured and transferred accurately.
  • Leads the management of the construction reporting tool, ensuring all external and internal stakeholders receive the necessary data.
  • Supports effective communication mechanisms between Project Manager and across the company for project portfolio information.
  • Advises and assists Project Managers in the application of procedures and standards related to project tracking and reporting.
  • Maintains a continuous improvement mindset and supports project and portfolio assessments during and after the project as input for business development and PMO to ensure future project success.
  • Contributes to project management best practices in accordance with PureSky values and PMO guidelines.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant project management and controls support experience.
  • Passion for renewable energy with expertise in solar, wind, battery storage and off-grid or micro-grid applications preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, construction management or another related field.
  • Advanced scheduling, planning and document control expertise.
  • Strong understanding of and prior experience in the procurement of equipment and materials from international suppliers for renewable projects is required.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong IT skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project) and SmartSheets and NetSuite.
  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel occasionally to project locations within Canada and the US.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset.
